Hello… my name is Natalie. I am a Birth & Postnatal Doula, Birth Preparation and Hypnobirth Instructor and Mindful Breastfeeding Supporter.

I completed my doula training with Developing Doulas, in February 2020, became a Doula UK recognised doula and Mindful Breastfeeding Supporter in early 2022 and a Hypnobirth Instructor with The Little Birth Company in June 2020.

I have 3 children of my own but sadly I didn’t discover the existence of doulas or even know anything about hypnobirthing until after all my children had been born. In all honesty, knowing what I know now, I am secretly tempted to do it all again …to ‘do it right’ this time with all the knowledge and skills I now have in my toolkit. Unfortunately, that isn’t likely, so now my goal is to focus on sharing this experience and the skills I have learned with other mums to be, so that they can have a positive experience of birth.

My first birth was not at all what I had hoped for. Despite lots of reading and some NHS antenatal classes I was woefully under prepared and not informed enough to make confident decisions about my birth. I, like many, accepted the offer of induction without fully understanding the implications of that decision. I laboured alone on the antenatal ward after my birth partner was sent home, due to visiting hour restrictions. I consented to the use of some forms of pain relief that had I been aware of the side effects and realised the effect being unsupported was having on my feelings of discomfort I may well have made very different decisions about. As a result I was left feeling traumatised by the birth and this trauma affected my feelings towards parenting my son in the early weeks and months.

Luckily, I had attended some antenatal yoga sessions before the birth of my second child and the breathing techniques, focus on remaining relaxed and the support of my birthing partner throughout the process led me towards a very different birthing experience with babies two and three as a result. Experiences that I look back on with love, pride and happiness!

My goal as a doula and hypnobirth instructor, with The Little Birth Company, is to help others to benefit from a much greater understanding of their body, what it does so wonderfully and naturally during labour and how to assist it to do its job efficiently! The support and reassurance I felt from my birthing partner is what I aim to provide for you, advocating for your labour choices and holding your space so that you can focus on the most important job, birthing your baby!
