DOULA SUPPORT

I am an experienced, Doula UK recognised, birth and postnatal doula offering you bespoke 1-1 support and care from the day you choose me to be your doula and for as long as you need me postpartum.

As a mother myself, I know how amazing it is to become a parent and how important this experience is to you. But, I know all too well that having children isn't a 'one size fits all' situation and as an expectant parent I understand that you have the most incredible number of choices and options open to you, which many people aren’t even aware of and those that are can find totally overwhelming.

So, picture this: together, we'll tackle your birth and postpartum experiences with a turbocharged approach. I am all about empowering you to seize control and shape YOUR journey, YOUR way. Whether it's practical tips, emotional support, or a fiery pep talk that you require, I am here to ensure that you are equipped with the knowledge and confidence you need to make informed decisions that align with your vision of parenthood.

So buckle up; because with The Dragonfly Doula, we're not just navigating this journey – we're blasting through it with unstoppable energy, a whole lot of heart and lots of laughs along the way.

Let's dive in and make this experience one to remember!

Birth Doula Care

As your birth doula I can assist you with your antenatal preparations. Talking through the process of labour and birth and if you are interested how hypnobirthing techniques could help you to feel calm, relaxed and positive as birth approaches (see hypnobirthing courses).

We build a relationship of trust and I provide a non-judgmental sounding board so that we can talk through your options for the birth and work together to draw up your birth plan/preferences, discussing any worries or concerns as they arise. If you are preparing for a home birth, we will also plan and arrange a safe space in your home ready for the big day!

As the birth approaches I go on call for you (usually from 38 weeks) so that I am ready when you need me.

Once labour begins I provide continuous 1-1 support and reassurance so that you can remain calm and in control.

I encourage your birth partner to care for your needs confidently and in a relaxed manner or I could be your birth partner if you wish. My role at the birth varies from family to family and can include providing for your needs, offering comfort measures, acting as a mediator with medical staff and advocate for your birth preferences, ensuring that you understand any interventions offered and your choices surrounding their use.

If planning a home birth, I could provide care for your other children so that you can focus solely on the birth of your baby.

My Birth Support Package costs: £2,200 (which includes 3 antenatal sessions and 1 postnatal debriefing session).

Additional postnatal support sessions available (see Postnatal Doula Support).

Your care during the postnatal period is as important, if not more so, than during your pregnancy. During pregnancy you have regular check-ups, there is a lot of interest in your wellbeing and there are a plethora of support services that you can easily access. Once your baby arrives you are very much left to 'get on with it' which is exactly when you need care the most. You are healing from the immense physical and emotional changes of birth, adapting to life as parents and a family (or extended family), learning new skills in order to feed and care for your newborn and all the challenges all these adjustments bring.

This is where I come in, to care for and support you and your family as you recover, rejuvinate and recalibrate. I can offer this support in so many ways, some of which I have listed below:

  • Debriefing your birthing experiences with you.
  • Signposting you to other postnatal care providers e.g. specialists in breastfeeding, mental health, multiples care etc.
  • Empowering you, as parents, to begin the bonding process with your new baby.
  • I can also support you with your recovery and help you in building confidence in your abilities to care for your new born whilst also providing practical assistance such as shopping for essentials, washing, tidying up, meal preparation and/or childcare of baby/siblings while you rest, wash or eat.
